Install, the camera permission, using Camlune on a call, and what happens to your video. The walkthrough is on the setup guide.

How do I install Camlune?

Camlune is free to download, and it is coming soon to the Mac App Store. When you have the app, move Camlune.app to your Applications folder and open it from there. macOS only installs camera extensions for apps in Applications. The full path is on the setup guide.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 Sonoma or later, and any camera: the built-in one, a USB webcam, or your iPhone with Continuity Camera. Camlune sends 720p at 30 frames per second, the resolution most call apps use.

Why does macOS ask me to allow a camera extension?

Camlune's virtual camera is a modern macOS camera extension, Apple's secure and sandboxed way to add a camera. The first time, click Install, then approve it in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Camera Extensions. It is a one-time step, and it is removed along with the app.

macOS never asked for camera permission

This can happen if Camlune was first opened from Terminal or Xcode. Quit Camlune, open it from Applications, and if needed enable it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.

How do I use Camlune on a call?

Open Camlune and allow the camera. The first time, install the virtual camera and approve the camera extension. In your video app, choose Camlune Virtual Camera as the camera. Keep Camlune open while you are on the call. The virtual camera shows your video only while Camlune is running and streaming is on.

Which apps can I use Camlune with?

Any Mac app that lets you choose a camera. That includes Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams (in the app or the browser), FaceTime, Webex, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp, OBS Studio and Streamlabs, plus anything that streams through OBS such as Twitch, YouTube Live and TikTok Live. Pick Camlune Virtual Camera as your camera. No plug-ins, no browser extensions.

"Camlune Virtual Camera" doesn't appear

Make sure the extension is turned on in System Settings. Quit the video app completely and reopen it. Most apps only look for cameras at launch. For browser-based calls (Google Meet, Teams on the web), quit and reopen the browser.

If the picture is black or frozen, keep Camlune open with streaming on, check that the right source camera is selected in Camlune's settings, and make sure no other app has exclusive use of it. More is on the support page.

Does my video get uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens on your Mac. Camlune processes your camera video entirely on your Mac. We don't upload, record, store, or share your video or images, and the app contains no analytics. The only place your video goes is the app you chose to send it to. Read the privacy policy.

Do I need an account?

No. Open it and go. Subscriptions run through the App Store, so we never see your payment details.

Will people be able to tell?

Not with the everyday looks. Bare Skin, Glass Skin, Natural Groomed and Well-Rested keep your skin texture and features, so you simply look rested and well lit. The glam looks are meant to be seen. Every effect has an intensity you control, and you can compare with the original at any time.

What is free, and what is Pro?

A great natural look is free. Free includes four everyday looks (Bare Skin, Glass Skin, Natural Groomed and Well-Rested), smooth, brighten, under-eyes and even tone, lipstick, exposure, temperature, background blur, one saved custom look, and a small Camlune watermark. Camlune Pro is $9.99 per month. It includes all 21 looks, unlimited custom looks, the rest of the studio, and no watermark. Prices are in USD. Your local price and taxes are shown in the App Store. You can try any Pro control in the preview before you buy. It is only sent to your camera once you subscribe.

How do I cancel Pro?

Pro is billed by Apple. Open the App Store, click your name, choose Account Settings, then Subscriptions, and cancel Camlune Pro. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
