Setup

Ready before you go live.

Seven short steps. Install the Mac app, allow the camera, then pick Camlune in the app you are calling from.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
  • Any camera: the built-in one, a USB webcam, or your iPhone with Continuity Camera.

Camlune is free to download, and it is coming soon to the Mac App Store. It sends 720p at 30 frames per second, the resolution most call apps use.

  1. Install the Mac app

Move Camlune.app into your Applications folder. macOS only installs camera extensions for apps that live there.

  2. Open Camlune

    Open it from Applications.

  3. Allow the camera

When macOS asks, allow camera access.

  4. Install the virtual camera

Click Install. Camlune adds a camera called Camlune Virtual Camera.

  5. Allow the extension

Approve it in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Camera Extensions.

You only do this once. The extension is removed along with the app.

  6. Choose Camlune on the call

In your video app, pick Camlune Virtual Camera as the camera. No plug-ins, no browser extensions.

That includes Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, Webex, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp, OBS Studio and Streamlabs, plus Twitch, YouTube Live and TikTok Live through OBS.

  7. Leave Camlune open

Keep the Camlune app open. The virtual camera shows your video only while Camlune is running and streaming is on.

If the camera does not appear

  • Make sure the extension is turned on in System Settings.
  • Quit the video app completely and reopen it. Most apps only look for cameras at launch.
  • For browser calls (Google Meet, Teams on the web), quit and reopen the browser.

If macOS never asked for the camera

This can happen if Camlune was first opened from Terminal or Xcode. Quit Camlune, open it from Applications, and if needed enable it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.

If the picture is black or frozen

  • Keep Camlune open and make sure streaming is on.
  • Check that the right source camera is selected in Camlune's settings, and that no other app has exclusive use of it.

Your face stays on your Mac. Camlune processes your camera video entirely on your Mac. We don't upload, record, store, or share your video or images, and the app contains no analytics. Read the privacy policy.
